What is Brainspotting?

What is Brainspotting? Brainspotting is a powerful therapeutic approach that accesses deep areas of the brain to help clients process trauma and release emotional stress. By identifying specific 'brainspots' where emotions are held, this method supports healing from trauma, anxiety, and PTSD, allowing clients to find relief and build resilience.

Where You Look Affects How You Feel

What is Brainspotting? Brainspotting is an advanced psychotherapeutic approach that accesses deep levels of the subcortical brain to help clients process traumatic events. The subcortical brain is responsible for primitive functions, such as emotions, consciousness, and social operations. Brainspotting involves identifying a “brainspot” in a client’s visual field where intense physiological and psychological feeling is held. This alternative therapeutic style was developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003.  Dr. Grand is a contributor to the field of psychology, with special recognition to EMDR. Brainspotting theory is based on the notion that trauma can become trapped in the body. Brainspotting is an attuned, brain-based approach that aims to release the physical stress trapped within the body, which in turns, releases emotional stress in the body. Brainspotting can help with anxiety, trauma, PTSD, depression, and attachment.  Check out this YouTube on Brainspotting to further understand Brainspotting.
